The Indian Education System:From Greater Order to Greater Disorder, charts the evolution of the Indian higher education system from ancient times to the contemporary era and delineates the most pressing challenges and issues currently plaguing it. The authors provide some sage advice culled from years of experience that educationists and policymakers will do well to pay heed to, as they frame the educational blueprint for the days to come.
Each Industrial revolution has widened the divide between the developed and developing countries at an exponentially faster pace. This book also undertakes an in-depth analysis of the history and current status of the Indian educational system and recommends concrete steps to prepare for the current Fourth Industrial Revolution and the Knowledge Society.
The initial chapter of the Indian Education System Book provides an examination of the Indian Education System from ancient times to pre-Independence India. The authors then traverse through the Evolution of Indian Higher Education Systems, University Education in India, Access and Equity concerning Quality, Privatization of Educational Institutions, Internationalisation and Globalisation of Higher Education, and Developing Research Competence in India. The final chapter presents strategies for fulfilling national aspirations. The authors believe strongly in academic autonomy for institutions, while requiring transparency and accountability for maintaining quality and accessibility.
“Time is of the essence here, so while the recommended actions should be debated and discussed, a roadmap must be developed urgently, and implemented forthwith and comprehensively. The education system must prepare confident and self-assured graduates, ready to take on leadership and entrepreneurial roles in the knowledge society to meet the nation’s aspirations.”
