OBC NCL, SC, ST, Pwd, DS Reservation of Quota in IITs, NITs and Certificates

OBC, SC, ST, PwD Reservation on IITs

As per the rules of the Government of India, candidates belonging to certain categories are admitted to seats reserved for them based on relaxed criteria. Benefit of OBC (NCL), SC and ST reservation shall be given only to those classes or castes or tribes which are in the respective central list of corresponding states published by the Government of India. Reservation candidates must upload the soft (scanned) copy of their category certificate during the online registration.

JEE Reservation for Other Backward Class Non Creamy Layer (OBC NCL)

OBC Creamy Layer (OBC-CL): If the parental income of the OBC candidates is above Rs.6.0 Lakhs and above will be considered as OBC Creamy Layer.

OBC Non-Creamy Layer (OBC-NCL): If the parental income of the OBC candidates is less than Rs.6.0 Lakhs will be considered as OBC Non Creamy Layer.

For candidates belonging to OBC Non creamy layer only, 27% of the seats are reserved in all IITs, and ISM Dhanbad. For the purpose of reservation of seats in JEE Advanced 2014, a candidate will be considered as OBC only if he/she belongs to the Non-creamy layer of the central list of Government of India in OBC category.

In case the reserved seats in this category are not filled, they can be filled by GE category candidates.

OBC Non-Creamy Layer Certificate for IITs admission thourgh JEE Advanced Exam

The soft copy of the category certificate issued after June 01, 2013 by a competent authority in the prescribed format is required to be uploaded during the online registration for JEE Advanced 2014.

OBC Non-Creamy Layer Certificate for NITs admission thourgh JEE Main Counselling

OBC candidates will be required to produce original certificate issued by the competent authority at the time of counselling as well as at the time of admission, failing which they will not be considered for admission.

Note : No need to enclose the OBC NCL certificate with the JEE Main application confirmation page.

OBC Creamy Layer

State list OBC Candidates who are not in OBC-NCL central list must choose General. The OBC cremy layer candidates are considered as General candidates only.

SC and ST Reservation of IITs

For candidates belonging to SC and ST categories, 15% and 7.5% seats, respectively, are reserved in every programme in all IITs, and ISM Dhanbad. They will be required to produce the original caste or tribe certificate issued by a competent authority in the prescribed format during admission. Seats remaining vacant in these categories shall not be filled by candidates belonging to any other category.

Persons with Disability (PwD) Reservation of IITs

In each institute 3% of seats in every category are reserved for Persons with Disability (PwD). For any type of disability (viz., locomotor, visual, dyslexia, speech, and/or hearing) benefit would be given to those who have at least 40% physical impairment. Leprosy-cured candidates who are otherwise fit to pursue the course are also included in this sub-category. Candidates belonging to this PwD sub-category are declared qualified on the basis of a relaxed criterion.

The PwD candidates will be required to submit the original certificate issued by a district medical board/competent authority in the prescribed format at the time of admission. Candidates are advised to ensure that the certificate that they are submitting is according to the latest guidelines of the Government of India, visit the web site of the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Disability Affairs for latest information.

Reservation of DS Candidates

Two seats are available for preferential allotment in each Institute for children of defence/paramilitary personnel killed or permanently disabled in action during war or peacetime operations (DS). Such candidates should upload the relevant certificate issued by a competent authority in the Directorate of Resettlement and Rehabilitation, New Delhi under the Ministry of Defence, Govt. of India or in the Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India, as applicable, during the online registration for JEE (Advanced) 2014. To avail this preferential allotment, he/she must obtain a rank in the Common Merit List of JEE Advanced 2014 (see Section 10.1) and should produce the original certificate at the time of admission.

The OBC NCL certificate is valid for only one year. You have to apply for the certificate again now.

kindly enclose your OBC NCL format alongwith application. If in case, you had already sent the application forms, kindly enclose a covering letter and mention about your application number and other details, and forward another letter to IIT JEE Guwahati Zone. They will accept it. You can reach them by calling to their IVRS.

Yes, You have to send the certificate (form of certificate to be produced by other backward classes applying for admission to central educational institutions) you got during form submission. Dont send your own OBC certificate.

I havent received the OBC-NCL certificate yet. So, I cannot submit the certificate along with the JEE application. Can I do it at a later stage ?

You should send the OBC NCL certificate after May 8, 2013 to the zonal IIT for IITs and at the time of counseling for NITs. No need to enclose with the JEE main confirmation page.

It is enough to apply for OBC NCL now, because it is enough to submit the OBC NCL certificate at the time of JEE main counseling. So you can proceed as you applied already.

You no need to attach the OBC NCL certificate with the application. It has to be produced at the time of JEE main counseling and at the time of admission only.

What is the validity of OBC NCL certificate, Is it only Six months ?

It is enough the OBC NCL certificate should be issued after May 31, 2012. If you apply for the certificate it will be valid still you get the JEE admission.

The student has to submit the OBC NCL certificate along with the undertaking letter for OBC NCL reservation.
